LINDSAY BRANHAM

I look to the lichen, the whale, and the turtle dove. They are not safe from humans, fossil fuels, or a warming planet. And yet, they go on anyways

Even as they face disappearance, they sing, love, fly, grow. If they can, we must.

	︎ ︎ ︎
	I am
An author, scholar, filmmaker, community-builder, eco-doula and psychedelic facilitator. These strike similar vibrations from a common center, a yearning to seed a more loving world. Thank you for being here.

I believe Central to an alternate orthopraxy to the dominant culture that has extracted, pillaged and destroyed so much, we need ceremonies, rituals and ways of life that embody our entanglement–that call us home.
I offer Ecological Wisdom Direction and Psychedelic-Assisted Healing sessions with individuals and groups.
These offerings inhabit multiple rings on the metaphorical heart of the tree. Concentric and expansive, nested and radiating. They seek to re-story and re-imagine, so as to plant resilience, grow community and deepen more loving ways of living.

	ECO-DOULA
Guide

“Let us live in a way that Earth will be grateful for us.”

- Robin Wall Kimmerer
We are facing global climate collapse and social upheaval. The desire to show up meaningfully to a suffering Earth co-arises with the fear, panic and overwhelm of a rapidly changing planet. Of a world shifting beneath our feet. Anxiety, grief, pain, anger and loneliness are very normal responses. So is a sense of urgency and a firey heart.
I provide tailored psychological and spiritual support as an eco-doula (or chaplain) to reconnect us to the healing capacity of nature. To reweave us into reciprocity for the Earth in turn.
I work in a practice I am terming Ecological Wisdom Direction, an emerging field that brings together environmentalism and the spiritual values of reverence for nature, interconnectedness, reciprocity, and service.
I facilitate practice 1:1 sessions, circles, groups and retreats to renew our relationship to the living world, and to gently navigate and support all that comes with these fractured times.

What is an Eco-Doula?

An Eco-Doula is a bow to the midwife who helps usher forward life. Even in the midst of global warming, extreme weather, climate refugees, loss of biodiversity and wild spaces, pillaging of Indigenous sacred lands, loss of natural resources and more, new life is still possible. Perhaps in the midst of this decay, something new is growing. My desire is to be a small piece in that arrival.
This philisophy is based on the Buddhist principles of; Ahimsa(do no harm), Karuna (compassion), Metta (lovingkindness)
and Paṭicca-samuppāda (interconnection).Fill out this interest form to learn more.

Emmy nominated filmmaker and University of
Cambridge Environmental Psychologist invites readers into a poetic, embodied
and expansive journey into the idea that our relationship with trees could
change the trajectory of climate collapse.

Combining
her pioneering PhD research on interoceptive awareness, our body’s “eighth
sense,” which she suggests is the sensuous language of the Earth, along with science
and stories about trees rooted in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado, readers
will be walked through a wonder-filled process of creating an erotic and
reciprocal relationship with the more than human world. Branham takes readers
on a profound exploration; how to learn the language of trees, hear their sentinel,
collective wisdom, and move from strangers to kin.

Heartwood speaks
directly to the fact that our dissatisfaction, discontent and despair are core
symptoms of being separated from nature and shares exactly how to rediscover
the living, teeming medicine that is right under our feet.

Each chapter includes a "tree" and "body” practice rooted in mindfulness and Budhhist philosophy to directly experience kinship with trees, and to be loved in turn.

Advance Praise for Heartwood:

“For those ready to divorce themselves from the
extractive ways of living that have severed us from ourselves and Mother
Nature—this book is the map for a new way forward.”
—Anna Malaika Tubbs, 2X New York Timesbestselling author of The Three Mothers and Erased

“As the world literally and figuratively burns, Branham is
giving us a vibrant, vision-changing way to survive what's coming.”
—Jedidiah Jenkins, New York Times bestselling author of Like Streams to the Ocean, To Shake
the Sleeping Self, Mother: Nature“Bold and dignified, intelligent and sensual, this book helped me fall in love with the world again.”
—Mirabai Starr, author of Ordinary Mysticism and Wild Mercy“Woven together with a beautiful prosaic touch, Lindsay has magically connected the dots between our liberation and the centuries old knowledge rooted firmly in the mother of our existence: the trees.” —
Joél Leon, author of the 2025 Gotham Book Prize nominated, Everything and Nothing At Once“A wonderfully perceptive and generative book, filled with invitations to open our bodies and imaginations to the many gifts offered by trees. A powerful reminder, too, of the healing powers of trees for individuals and communities.” —
David George Haskell, biologist and two-time Pulitzer-finalist author of Sounds Wild and Broken, The Songs of Trees, and The Forest Unseen“With poetic tenderness, depthful knowledge, and embodied presence, Heartwood will guide readers to their inherent belonging, interconnectedness, and relationship with the living earth.“—Lisa Olivera, author of Already Enough and When the Ache Remains“In mellifluous prose, embedded with sparkling glimpses of poetry, we encounter an interwoven discourse and guided meditation on trauma, chronic illness and autoimmunity, healing and recovery, and the rediscovery—the re-enchantment—of our relationship with nature.“—Sylvestre Quevedo, MD, MPH, Research Physician, Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics and Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, University of California, Berkeley“Effortlessly combining scientific research, Buddhist practice, and indigenous wisdom, she unveils the remarkable discovery that enhancing our interoceptive sensitivity restores our ability to hear and understand the language of the land.”—Brother Spirit, Plum Village

	Why work with me?
Our team has guided over 1,000 people in psychedelic retreats to date through this method. We are certified psychedelic facilitators through the Synthesis Institute, a global leader in the modern psychedelic movement.

Our approach is especially informed by Buddhism, formal training in psychology and trauma, meditation expertise, somatic experiencing, holotropic and transformational breathwork and nature connection. Lindsay has also facilitated in-person meditation and mindfulness contemplative retreats for over 350 people. We are companions on your journey.
We take a resilience-focused, non-directive approach. We believe you have everything you need inside of you. Our role is to help you find, source and experience that inner healing intelligence.
We seek to provide impeccable care and take ethics very seriously when interacting with altered states of consciousness. Undertaking an experience with plant medicines is a risk and we are happy to go over that risk in detail with you. We prioritize harm reduction, safety and special considerations for non-ordinary states of consciousness. We center your inner knowing above our own, and believe deeply in your own capacities and resources. A health screening is in place to ensure medical and psychological safety. However, it is still a risk to take plant medicines and we advise you to do your research and determine if this is the right fit for you, and if we are the right people to do it with. Additionally, we engage in practices of self-care, self-growth, and self-examination, aligning with our own inner healing intelligence. We give and receive feedback from mentors and colleagues, and participate in continuing education.
Today, if you Google the phrase “psychedelic healing” there is a consumer market with pre-packaged one-size-fits-all approaches ready to purchase. In contrast, we have co-created tailored experiences for hundreds of participants with desires and needs that range from mental health concerns to life transition, spiritual growth and more.

PhD Psychology“ Without inner change there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters.
- Reverend angel Kyodo williams

I am a scholar and scientist exploring kinship between humans and the Earth.
Doctoral Research:

The Body of the World: A Queered Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Embodied Sensation, More-than-Human Kinships and Entangled Futures
In order to challenge Western nature connection science's binary understanding of the human-nature relationship which upholds colonial logics and risks perpetuating ongoing coloniality and limits its impact for addressing climate change intersectionally, this present research traced the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour environmental activists' relationships with the more-than-human world. By exploring the phenomena of the 'naturehuman' relationship through a decolonial dialogue between queer feminist phenomenology and interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), the research revealed four key insights: (1) the body is a critical sensory site of 'naturehuman' relations, where embodied awareness creates pathways for ecological intimacy; (2) kinship and reciprocal relations weave an embodied ontology that transcends conventional notions of attachment; (3) moving beyond binaries toward entanglement promotes intersectional environmentalism and helps prevent the perpetuation of colonial ideologies; and (4) arts-based ceremony offers ways to materialize new relations and futurities. Deconstructing a queered IPA into a post-qualitative arts-based ceremony, 'The Body of the World' emerged as a conceptual framework building on Haraway’s natureculture, where 'naturehuman' (focus on kinship/relations) and corporeality decompose into a space of possibility. This framework reveals that an embodied, reciprocal kinship with the more-than-human world is a pathway toward collective transformation that addresses embodied colonial wounds while nurturing ‘multispecies ecojustice.’ In sum, the research reimagines environmental justice as a kinship-making process, emerging not through individual behavior change in nature connectedness but through radical revisioning of how bodies, ecologies, culture and more-than-human worlds entangle, co-terminus in their mutual flourishing. Theoretical and methodological implications are discussed. Thesis available here.
